Advertising revenue model on websites

Online Ads are bad

Online ads do more harm than good. Users are overwhelmed with online ads.

    • If you go to a website that uses the ads revenue module, you’re not entirely in charge of what you see on the website. Machine learning algorithms show you what you’re more likely to click on based on your previous actions and based on the users who demonstrate a behavior similar to yours. Very often, these websites know you better that you know yourself.

      • I guess, considering the objective of keenston site, the model which do not allow ads to be shown to the user is more appropriate.

The only problem I see is how to determine what a reasonable price to charge would be.  I think it may vary a lot and it might prevent some users to join the site.

On the other hand, as it was explained, there are facilities which will be free of charge, allowing everyone to get to know the site and maybe find out that making an effort to spend some more money would be worthwile.

        • Thanks a lot for your opinion, Mauricio!

I agree, determining the right price will be a challenge.. And many people who don't want to just participate but also create new content will not join. But let's see, I really hope there will be some people who will find the website's idea attractive and will be willing to pay therefore contributing to the better future, where people are a little more nuanced-thinking than they are now:)

In the meantime, we all can casually create new content and participate in each other's debates/addresses since everyone who joined Keenston last year got a lifetime premium membership :)

        • I believe that online ads may sometimes be dangerous. There are relevant ads, and then there are ads that can lead you to scam websites or something of the sorts. Personally, I have no idea if what you are shown online is regulated in any way.

And there is also the issue of privacy. Sometimes targeted ads make you feel like you are being watched (which, in some sense, you are) - and no one likes it when their privacy is invaded.

          • Well, most trash ads are usually located on dubious websites and you don't have to visit those websites at all. Yes, websites like online betting services for example can be overwhelmed with ads of lower quality but the thing is those websites are themselves of lower quality. A decent site would never place ads that lead to malware.
