Hello,

Do you know what a Corona-Tracer is and what we try to accomplish?

In case this is done in your Country / region as well then I’m very curious to hear from you.
As you might know we did not a good job in Switzerland in terms of the Corona-Virus during the 2nd wave. We have waited for much too long before implementing stricter rules. So the Corona-Tracing has got to its limits in many Cantons (Regions) here.

Where I work we have to deal with 200 new cases a day on a population of 350’000 inhabitants which is a lot of work to do.
My team does the 2nd phone call. We talk to the people, ask them how they are doing right now, explain them in detail what they and family members should do now for the next 10 days.

So many people tell us, they have only light symptoms like you experience during a flue. They still have to stay home in order not to infect other people. But there are a few who suffer a lot. Not just those over 65 but also others, even young guys. One woman told me that she is positive and doesn’t feel well. But that she is worried so much about her 6 month old baby that has gone through days with really high fever between 39 and 40 degrees. That woman is still breastfeeding – so the baby was bound to get the virus. But even before showing symptoms on herself her baby had fallen ill. So, how could she know that?

So, please tell me about the situation in your place and whether or not someone close to you has had a serious or a mild outbreak because of the virus and what you think the reason was they got infected in the first place.
I’m looking forward to a lively discussion here!

Very kindly,
Urs

    • Thanks a lot for your post, Urs! This is very noble of you to help your community to cope with this outbreak.. People do need that indeed. Seems like most people got really tired of this pandemic and they didn't approach the second wave as carefully and responsibly as the first wave. Hence we are seeing higher numbers.

It's bad in Russia too now. The numbers are much higher than they were back in the spring. What I've noticed that many people are neglecting the quarantine measures and don't even wear masks. My wife and I have been extremely careful limiting our social interactions, avoiding public transport and ordering takeout every other day, but still my wife got sick and went through a mild form of Corona.

We think that she got sick when she met two of her coworkers at a cafe (she went to cafes at most once a month during the pandemic). All of them were wearing masks and the waiters were too. But still the virus sneaked in somehow. Immediately after she'd gotten her positive result, she contacted her coworkers and let them know about her condition. But I don't think that there was an official list of my wife's contacts to attempt to trace the virus. Doesn't seem like the officials are trying to trace the virus in Russia. They didn't even tell me to stay at home. It was entirely up to me. I did self-isolate but I wouldn't be surprised that many people who were in a similar situation didn't do that.

Perhaps, if there were corona tracing here, we'd be better off..

      • Hello Urs,

very nice post. And the video was very good as well to help understand what corona-tracer is all about.

Here, in Brazil, I don´t think there´s a specific program like that.  In my city, people who are identified as having the virus are told to stay home for 14 days and they have to wait, 9 days, I guess, so they can be tested, which, they say, is the necessary time for the virus to show on the scan test.  But I don´t think they do any kind of contact tracing to warn whoever has been in touch with the infected person.

My brother was infected three months ago and the disease developed in a strong form. He had to be admitted in a hospital.  Those were some scary days, both for him and for us.  Usually, peope who are admitted don´t have contact with their family outside, except for a daily report we can get from the hospital´s social worker.  But, fortunately, my brother managed to take a cell phone along so we could be in touch with him and we were able to know how everything was progressing.  Fortunately, he had a good recovery and came back home about one week later.

Now, news is that the number of cases are going back up.  And people are not showing signs of being more careful.  We had elections in november which cause a lot of assembling of people and, I think, contributed to increasing the number of contaminations.

I hope, with Chystmas coming up, that people are responsible and be careful with the way they celebrate it.

        • Glad that your brother recovered! Stay safe, Mauricio, really hope that this contagion will subside soon.

People in Moscow are also not very careful. Guess there'll be another surge of cases after Christmas
